Aktivitätszonen, Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, 2017
marking on floor (Columbus Center Bremerhaven)
The exhibition Aktivitätszonen focused on the „Columbus Center“, a landmark building of Bremerhaven. I examined this center as a carrier of visions and reorientation of urban planning in Bremerhaven in the 1970s, and how this building is used in 2017. In this work I combine archival material from when it was planned and constructed with on-site observations of the actual present status and use of the building.
Due to its materiality, the marking on the floor is dispersed by the exhibition visitors, which, as it is distributed, accumulates new information.
The marking made on the floor in the gallery quotes one contribution of the architectural competition in 1971. The architectural plans for an adjoining area of the previsioned Center finally never came to realisation.
The architectural sketch is superimposed with the same area at its current condition by a fold out floorplan. All the observed action is mapped and recorded through my own form of cartography.
